Under Area Rug Heating

Like an electric blanket for your floor, RugHeat™ is the only CE Listed portable heating system in the world approved for use under area rugs. The heated floor mat by RugHeat™ is an innovative heating system that turns area rugs into "invisible" space heaters and lets you stay warm and keep your sense of style. You can also use this as a heated pet mat!

The heated floor mat is perfect for your bathrooms, bedrooms, dining room, family room, kitchen, play rooms, that cold room over your garage, basements, and more. Great for yoga and stretching exercises, too! You can also find a Heated Door Mat at CozyWinters for a snow melting entrance mat to prevent slipping.

The heated floor mat by RugHeat™ is the attractive solution for warming cold spots in any room of the home or office. You simply place the heating mat under your area rug and plug it in. RugHeat™ can help increase comfort while lowering energy costs. RugHeat™ is guaranteed safe no matter what type of floor covering is under your area rug (stone, tile, wood, laminate, vinyl and/or carpet). The power cord length is 8 feet. RugHeat™ carries a Five Year Limited Warranty.

Simple, Safe, Energy Efficient

Eliminate those cold spots in your home with this versatile, high-tech, portable electric radiant heating blanket instead of dangerous space heaters.

Perfect on top of existing hard surface flooring that feels cold or over already installed carpets in your bedroom or living room to add that extraordinary on-demand heating comfort right at your feet.

This floor heating mat is primarily used as supplemental heating, not primary heating. For primary heating, you must cover 70% of the floor area in a room and keep doors closed, so heat does not migrate to adjoining rooms.

Energy Efficient:
  • The 58" x 81" (Fits under a 5' x 7' Rug), RugHeat™ costs less than four light bulbs to run.
  • Save energy with zone heating by only heating the rooms in use.
  • A lamp timer can be used on the rug heating mat, but it must be 3-prong (only).
  • Plug in to 120V, grounded outlet
  • Energy Usage: 365 watts, 3.04 amps, 120V
  • Pennies a day to operate
  • Average temperature on the surface of the rug is 75 to 80 degrees, but really does depend on the temperature in the room when using RugHeat™ as supplemental heat.
Safe:
  • The only CE Listed heating product for under your area rug
  • Water-proof (yes, you can use it in the bathroom)
  • No risk of burning
  • No risk of fire
  • GFCI protected
  • No toxic fumes
  • No risk of shock
  • Healthy: No EMR. No dust circulation. No Carbon Monoxide.
Easy Installation:
  • No tools or electrician needed
  • Lay down non-slip pad
  • Lay down Rug Heat
  • Tape down Corners
  • Lay down Area Rug
  • Plug in and Enjoy!
Durable:
  • Rolling Office Chairs are OK!
  • Furniture Legs are OK
  • Washable - Even Steam Clean your Carpets!
  • Warranty - 5-year repair/replacement against manufacturer defect

Note: You must use a non-slip/non-creep pad with this product.
The non-slip/non-creep pads can be found at your local hardware or flooring store or we carry a specially designed Non-Slip Thermal Insulation Pad. The Non-Slip Thermal Insulation Pad for this product prevents wrinkling, buckling, crawling, and moving of an area rug and the RugHeat™ on any type of flooring, plus it provides thermal insulation between a hard floor and the heating panel, improving the RugHeat™ electric radiant floor heater's performance and efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I put this directly on top of my existing wall-to-wall carpet and then an area rug on top--with no extra rug pad?
You must use a non-slip rug pad. First place a non-slip/non-creep pad on top of the wall to wall carpeting, then tape the heating panel to the non-slip pad, then place the rug on top of the heating panel. Plug it into a regular outlet, wait 30 minutes and feel the warmth on top of the rug.
Can this be used in a bathroom if plugged into a GF plug?
The heating panel is waterproof, so it can be used in a bathroom. It has its own GFCI plug, so you can safely plug it into a standard outlet. The cord is 8ft long. You must use a non-slip pad under the heating panel. You must cover the heating panel with an area rug or a bath mat. The area rug or bath mat must NOT have a rubber or non-slip backing, as this will stop the heat being conducted to the top of the rug.
Can this be used outside?
Heating panel is designed for indoor use only. It must be installed on top of a non-slip pad and covered with a rug. The rug heats up and acts as a radiant heating surface. Radiant heat warms people and objects in the room, not the air. If installed outside, the heat produced by the unit will be dissipated into the air and the customer will think it is not working.
Can I use this over a concrete floor with foam interlocking tiles on top of the heater?
Foam interlocking tiles will act as an insulator, so the heating will not be very effective. The foam tiles can also emit an odor when heated.
Can this be used directly on hardwood floor with a rug on top without a non-slip pad?
You must use a non-slip pad, otherwise the heating panel will slip on the hardwood floor.
Can I put furniture, such as coffee table on top of the rug covering the heating panel?
Yes, as long as there is at least 2 inches of clearance between the bottom of the furniture and the rug.
Is this OK to use with a braided polypropylene rug on top?
No problem using a braided polypropylene rug on top of the heating panel, provided the rug does NOT have a non-slip backing. You must use a separate non-slip pad under the heating panel, then place the rug on top of the heating panel.
Can these be used under a vinyl office chair mat?
Yes, but the vinyl mat must not have spikes on the underside. Spikes will damage the heater.
What is the power rating and current draw?
Please refer to the Watts and Amps listed in the Sizing Chart below.
Can this be used over luxury vinyl flooring?
Yes, but you must first put down a good quality non-slip pad. We recommend our non-slip rug pads.
I have a solid, non-slip pad under my rug. Would the mesh gorilla pad pass more heat through to the tiles underneath, which would be good?
Our solid non-slip pad is better. The heating panel has a reflective layer on the underside which helps conduct the heat to the surface of the rug. Once the rug surface is warm, it radiates "warmth" to your body and other objects in the room. You do not want the heat to be conducted downwards into the tile.
How much weight can you put on it. Can a table and chairs go on it in kitchen?
Kitchen table and chairs are not a problem as long as the legs are at least 1-inch square or 1 inch in diameter
Can this be enough to heat a small room, e.g., 150 sf, in mild climate?
For primary heating, you need to cover at least 70% of the floor area. So, to heat a 150sf room, you need 105sf, of heater.
What is the thickness of the heating panel?
The heating panel is 1/8" thick.
Can it be installed under carpeting?
It can be installed under wall to wall carpeting. Tape the heating panel to the standard carpet pad and stretch the carpet over the heating panel. Be very careful with the teeth on the carpet stretching equipment, otherwise the heating panel can be damaged and cannot be repaired.
Can it be folded over to fit the space?
No. The heating panel cannot be folded. It must be installed perfectly flat.
Recommended floor pad type?
We recommend our specially designed non-slip Thermal Insulation Pad, as it prevents wrinkling, buckling, crawling, and moving of an area rug and the heater on any type of flooring. Provides thermal insulation between a hard floor and the heating panel, improving RugHeat's performance and efficiency.
Where is the cord located if you were to lay it horizontally?
The cord extends from one of the corners of the heating panel. It can be flipped either side up, so which corner is irrelevant.
Can this help heat the space under a desk in an unfinished basement?
Yes it works well. The desk must have legs that raise the bottom of the desk at least 2" above floor level. The 3' × 5' is usually a good fit under a regular desk.
Can you put heavy furniture on it? Accent chair and sofa?
Furniture with at least 2" clearance at the base can be placed on top of the rug covering the heating panel. Weight is not a problem. The clearance is necessary to allow hot air to escape from under the furniture. If the air is trapped under the furniture, the heating panel may overheat and trip the attached GFCI plug, stopping the heater from working.
How long is the cord and where does it come out?
Cord is 8ft long and exits the heating panel from the corner. Panel can be flipped either side up.
Can this heating panel be run 24/7 for days on end, or must it be turned off regularly like some heated rugs?
Yes, it can be run 24/7. Do not leave anything on top of the rug covering the heating panel, like a bean bag chair, since it will trap heat under the furniture, the heating panel may overheat and trip the attached GFCI plug, stopping the heater from working.
Does it matter what type of rug pad is utilized under the heating mat?
Most non-slip pad will work, but we highly recommend our non-slip rug pads.
Can you put the heating panel on top of a short-pile wall to wall carpet, with an area rug over it?
Yes, but you must use a non-slip, non-creep pad on top of the wall to wall carpet underneath the heating panel.
What is the Warranty on this product?
5-year limited manufacturer's warranty, plus our 30 days "no questions asked" return policy.
Can you put it under foam mats (like in a playroom)? Or, can you lay it on top of foam mats with an area rug over the heating panel?
Do not use under foam mats. You can place a nonslip pad on top of the foam mats, then the heating panel, then an area rug.
What does it cost to run? I'm looking at a 5x7 and would run it 24/7 in the winter months.
Our 5x7 heating panel is rated at 365 Watts. One unit of electricity is 1000 Watts for 1 hour. the heating panel will use 0.365 units per hour. The cost per unit of electricity varies across the country but is usually around $0.20 / unit. The panel will therefore cost about 7.3 cents per hour to operate (0.365 x $0.20).
Can you use this product in a bathroom?
Yes, provided you use a non-slip pad under the heating panel and cover it with a rug. It has a GFCI plug attached, so is safe even on a standard outlet.
Is it safe?
Provided it is used strictly according to the operating instructions, it is perfectly safe. The heating panel has a Class A GFCI plug attached to the cord, which will trip if there is any electrical fault. In addition, the heating element is "partially self-correcting", and lowers operating temperature for a short while if insulating items are left on top of the heated rug for short periods.
How warm does the mat get? Does it have a thermostat?
In a reasonably well insulated room, the temperature on top of the rug will be 80°F to 90°F. There is no temperature control attached to the product. You can however purchase our plug-in timer and thermostat which can be used with this product.
Does this come with the required non-slip rug pad?
No. The rug pad does not come with the product. You must provide the rug and the non-slip rug pad. You place the heating panel between the non-slip rug pad and the rug.
Are there risks if you spill liquids on the rug covering the heating panel?
The heating panel is waterproof. If, however, the heating element is accidentally exposed by physical damage, and liquid is spilled over the damaged area, the GFCI plug will instantly trip and disconnect the power to the heater.
Can I roll an office chair over it?
Use a non-slip pad underneath the heating panel and a thin rug on top, and you can roll an office chair over it.
How durable is this heater? Is it OK in areas that get lots of foot traffic or where kids might be jumping or running?
The heater is very durable provided it is securely attached to the non-slip rug pad, and the rug on top remains in place covering the entire heating panel.
Will the product work well under a very thick rug?
Yes. It will take a bit longer for the rug to heat up to full operating temperature, but once that temperature is reached, the thickness of the rug is irrelevant.
Is a rug pad and absolute requirement? What if I stuck the corners of this mat down so it didn't bunch, would I still need a rug pad?
The rug pad not only stops slippage but acts as a thermal barrier to improve heat conduction to the surface of the rug. It also protects expensive floor coverings.
Is this item multi-voltage (i.e. 110v/220v)?
No. It is 120 volts only and has a 3-prong GFCI plug attached.

Wondering if you should buy one?
There is this girl, a Colorado native, who longs for the first shifts in the autumn days that signal the coming winter, who loves the cold of Christmas, the snows of January, the crisp air of winters… and who now lives in Houston, Texas. Trust me, it hurts to write it as much as it does to read. How she got here is a story for a different time.

The point of this story is that she has never adjusted to the bone chilling winters in a humid climate. Sitting inside her home, the north wind whipping at the windows, the chill seeping inside, the feeling that summer cannot get here soon enough. The rest of the house is warm but the main great room cannot hold up to the incessant unrelenting attack of the winter wind. Sitting here, the chill seeping inside, the heart of the home feels unwelcoming because of the onslaught of winter.

So, a month ago, she saw the approaching winter, the first cold nights started to arrive, and she fought back. She fought to defend her home from the winter intruder. She ordered her ammunition: a single rug heater for under the kitchen table… And the results? What could one rug heater do? Would it make a difference? Is it worth it?

Well, today she ordered three more.

Now, her home has one under the kitchen runner, two under the large living room rug and one under the dining room table and as soon as the budget allows, another one will be ordered for the master bathroom and still another for the room over the garage.

There are very few times in life that I have been as impressed with a product as I have been with this one.

Order one. It will change your winters.

PS: Make sure you use an appropriate rug insulation pad.

Wonderfully Warm!!
We have a large home and we have a heater under every rug!! The cat loves them. We especially love them in our bathroom and closet. We keep our bedroom cool and the bathroom is warm. If we leave the bathroom door open it heats the bedroom so we keep it closed tight to keep in the warm air. All of the floors where the rugs are have wood under them. Very pleased with this purchase... 2 or 3 years in a row we've found places to add a rug and have enjoyed the warmth.

Awesome product!
Bought one last year for my area rug when we switched from carpet to wood floors. This did the trick! Keeps the LR warm without having to turn up the thermostat for my entire house. I highly recommend this product.

This is the greatest thing since sliced bread!!! My purchase was for a bathroom that has a north exterior wall and even when the air was warm (from a heater) the floor was COLD! This was the only floor heating system that could be used in the bathroom and I love stepping out of the shower onto a warm floor. Going to get another one for the other bath. This is cold country--over 5700 ft. elevation and for a house thats already built-and the floor already poured-this is the perfect solution to have a warm floor.

These weird things are a godsend
There is nothing to say except that these bizarre floor mats are a better mood elevator than all the serotonin re-uptake drugs ever invented. If you have dogs they will thank you for buying one or more of these. If you have feet they too will thank you for bringing one of these heater mats into your life. Pros: No thinking involved to employ--plug in the cord. Greater pleasure in being will come from standing (or lying!) in the field of toastiness. Put one next to your bed, place slippers atop, wake to joyous foot warmth. Love humanity--even if briefly--as a result. At least love the memory of Tesla, if no one else. Cons: You have to be neat--no piling laundry on top! Yes, I should be neat anyhow...sue me. Not a hard duty item--playing dogs chasing tennis balls is a bad idea if heater mat is not generously within the perimeter of the area rug. It will still work, but it will become frowzy and wrinkled. Cord is large, as is appropriate for the needs, but can be difficult to camouflage. I would buy these over again every day of the week. Mine are at least five years old, are put to use every winter, and are in three rooms of my six room house. These odd heater mats bring a comfort to my life which is sorely lacking, here in the land of the palmetto bug and eight solid summertime months of soul-sapping AC. They will come with me when I move north, and I will continue to treasure them.

Warmed a cold bathroom
Our bathroom was added over the garage so the floor is always very cold. We use this mat at the sink where our feet are now nice and warm. We also step onto it when we get out of the shower. Mmmm

Great for YOGA!
I practice yoga in a room above the garage (for 9 months during Minnesota winter). The room has heat and is insulated, but the floor remained cold. Yoga is done barefoot, so this was very uncomfortable. I had used a layering system of sticky mat, electric blanket, and another mat. This worked for several years but was not the best solution as the 'sandwich' would slide on the (cork) floor and the heat was not distributed equally. I could not be happier with this product from CozyWinters!!! I purchased the 3x5 heater and under-pad and it is perfect for my practice. Now I let my old dog lay on the electric blanket and he loves the heat too. Extremely satisfied and would recommend this for anyone who practices yoga and wants warm feet. It has changed my life!!!

Performance that's right up there with my radiant floor heating.
I have an old bungalow which is a bear to heat, despite implementing all the prescribed 'energy saving' ideas (replacing windows, triple cell blinds, blown-in insulation, etc). I also have an addition, a sunroom with radiant floor heat: THE BEST HEAT EVER! However I still couldn't use my living room because, even with the fireplace ablaze, the floor felt so cold; a cold draft permeated the floor area. I purchased this heated rug pad for the area between the sofas that flank the fireplace. I plug it in when we want to use the living room and it makes the floor every bit as toasty as the radiant floor heating system. I recommend this product to everyone I possibly can because I think many people struggle with uncomfortably cold areas of their house when they don't need to. I want to sell this product!
