Under Area Rug Heating - The Smartest Radiant Floor Heater in the World!

Like an electric blanket for your floor, RugHeat™ is the only CE Listed portable heating system in the world approved for use under area rugs, since 1995. The heated floor mat by RugHeat™ is an innovative heating system that turns area rugs into "invisible" space heaters and lets you stay warm and keep your sense of style. You can also use this as a heated pet mat! If you want to ensure your pad doesn't move, check out our non-slip Thermal Insulation Pad.

The heated floor mat is perfect for your bathrooms, bedrooms, dining room, family room, kitchen, play rooms, that cold room over your garage, basements, and more. Great for yoga and stretching exercises, too! You can also find a Heated Door Mat at CozyWinters for a snow melting entrance mat to prevent slipping.

The heated floor mat by RugHeat™ is the attractive solution for warming cold spots in any room of the home or office. You simply place the heating mat under your area rug and plug it in. RugHeat™ can help increase comfort while lowering energy costs. RugHeat™ is guaranteed safe no matter what type of floor covering is under your area rug (stone, tile, wood, laminate, vinyl and/or carpet). The power cord length is 8 feet. RugHeat™ carries a Five Year Limited Warranty.

Simple, Safe, Energy Efficient

Eliminate those cold spots in your home with this versatile, high-tech, portable radiant heating pad instead of dangerous space heaters.

Perfect on top of existing hard surface flooring that feels cold or over already installed carpets in your bedroom or living room to add that extraordinary on-demand heating comfort right at your feet.

This floor heating mat is primarily used as supplemental heating, not primary heating. For primary heating, you must cover 70% of the floor area in a well insulated room and keep doors closed, so heat does not migrate to adjoining rooms.

Innovative Heating Element

Our Patented Co-Axial Heating Element was developed over 35 years ago in 1986. Now in its 4th Generation, it's our most advanced heating element ever and has been used in tens of thousands of in-floor radiant heat installations under tile, laminate, and carpet. This is one of the highest quality, safest, most durable heating systems available.

Self regulating, multi stranded heating element with a full earth screen. Insulated with 2 layers of Fluoropolymer coating, makes it fully waterproof and corrosion resistant.

Our heating element is very thin at 1.3mm. You will not feel our RugHeat™ heating panel under your rug, only the warmth.

The heating core has self regulating properties, which means that it generates progressively less heat (to the touch) with increasing temperature output.

Energy Efficient:
  • The 58" x 81" RugHeat™ (Fits under a 5' x 7' Rug), costs less than four light bulbs to run.
  • Save energy with zone heating by only heating the rooms in use.
  • A lamp timer can be used on the rug heating mat, but it must be 3-prong (only).
  • Plug in to 120V, grounded outlet
  • Energy Usage: 365 watts, 3.04 amps, 120V
  • Pennies a day to operate
  • Average temperature on the surface of the rug is 75 to 80 degrees, but really does depend on the temperature in the room when using RugHeat™ as supplemental heat.
  • Refer to our Energy Cost Chart below for more details.

  • The only CE Listed heating product for under your area rug

Note: You must use a non-slip/non-creep pad with this product.
The non-slip/non-creep pads can be found at your local hardware or flooring store or we carry a specially designed Non-Slip Thermal Insulation Pad. The Non-Slip Thermal Insulation Pad for this product prevents wrinkling, buckling, crawling, and moving of an area rug and the RugHeat™ on any type of flooring, plus it provides thermal insulation between a hard floor and the heating panel, improving the RugHeat™ electric radiant floor heater's performance and efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I put this directly on top of my existing wall-to-wall carpet and then an area rug on top--with no extra rug pad?
You must use a non-slip rug pad. First place a non-slip/non-creep pad on top of the wall to wall carpeting, then tape the heating panel to the non-slip pad, then place the rug on top of the heating panel. Plug it into a regular outlet, wait 30 minutes and feel the warmth on top of the rug.
Can this be used in a bathroom if plugged into a GF plug?
The heating panel is waterproof, so it can be used in a bathroom. It has its own GFCI plug, so you can safely plug it into a standard outlet. The cord is 8ft long. You must use a non-slip pad under the heating panel. You must cover the heating panel with an area rug or a bath mat. The area rug or bath mat must NOT have a rubber or non-slip backing, as this will stop the heat being conducted to the top of the rug.
Can this be used outside?
Heating panel is designed for indoor use only. It must be installed on top of a non-slip pad and covered with a rug. The rug heats up and acts as a radiant heating surface. Radiant heat warms people and objects in the room, not the air. If installed outside, the heat produced by the unit will be dissipated into the air and the customer will think it is not working.
Can I use this over a concrete floor with foam interlocking tiles on top of the heater?
Foam interlocking tiles will act as an insulator, so the heating will not be very effective. The foam tiles can also emit an odor when heated.
Can this be used directly on hardwood floor with a rug on top without a non-slip pad?
You must use a non-slip pad, otherwise the heating panel will slip on the hardwood floor.
Can I put furniture, such as coffee table on top of the rug covering the heating panel?
Yes, as long as there is at least 2 inches of clearance between the bottom of the furniture and the rug.
Is this OK to use with a braided polypropylene rug on top?
No problem using a braided polypropylene rug on top of the heating panel, provided the rug does NOT have a non-slip backing. You must use a separate non-slip pad under the heating panel, then place the rug on top of the heating panel.
Can these be used under a vinyl office chair mat?
Yes, but the vinyl mat must not have spikes on the underside. Spikes will damage the heater.
What is the power rating and current draw?
Please refer to the Watts and Amps listed in the Sizing Chart below.
Can this be used over luxury vinyl flooring?
Yes, but you must first put down a good quality non-slip pad. We recommend our non-slip rug pads.
I have a solid, non-slip pad under my rug. Would the mesh gorilla pad pass more heat through to the tiles underneath, which would be good?
Our solid non-slip pad is better. The heating panel has a reflective layer on the underside which helps conduct the heat to the surface of the rug. Once the rug surface is warm, it radiates "warmth" to your body and other objects in the room. You do not want the heat to be conducted downwards into the tile.
How much weight can you put on it. Can a table and chairs go on it in kitchen?
Kitchen table and chairs are not a problem as long as the legs are at least 1-inch square or 1 inch in diameter
Can this be enough to heat a small room, e.g., 150 sf, in mild climate?
For primary heating, you need to cover at least 70% of the floor area. So, to heat a 150sf room, you need 105sf, of heater.
What is the thickness of the heating panel?
The heating panel is 1/8" thick.
Can it be installed under carpeting?
It can be installed under wall to wall carpeting. Tape the heating panel to the standard carpet pad and stretch the carpet over the heating panel. Be very careful with the teeth on the carpet stretching equipment, otherwise the heating panel can be damaged and cannot be repaired.
Can it be folded over to fit the space?
No. The heating panel cannot be folded. It must be installed perfectly flat.
Recommended floor pad type?
We recommend our specially designed non-slip Thermal Insulation Pad, as it prevents wrinkling, buckling, crawling, and moving of an area rug and the heater on any type of flooring. Provides thermal insulation between a hard floor and the heating panel, improving RugHeat's performance and efficiency.
Where is the cord located if you were to lay it horizontally?
The cord extends from one of the corners of the heating panel. It can be flipped either side up, so which corner is irrelevant.
Can this help heat the space under a desk in an unfinished basement?
Yes it works well. The desk must have legs that raise the bottom of the desk at least 2" above floor level. The 3' × 5' is usually a good fit under a regular desk.
Can you put heavy furniture on it? Accent chair and sofa?
Furniture with at least 2" clearance at the base can be placed on top of the rug covering the heating panel. Weight is not a problem. The clearance is necessary to allow hot air to escape from under the furniture. If the air is trapped under the furniture, the heating panel may overheat and trip the attached GFCI plug, stopping the heater from working.
How long is the cord and where does it come out?
Cord is 8ft long and exits the heating panel from the corner. Panel can be flipped either side up.
Can this heating panel be run 24/7 for days on end, or must it be turned off regularly like some heated rugs?
Yes, it can be run 24/7. Do not leave anything on top of the rug covering the heating panel, like a bean bag chair, since it will trap heat under the furniture, the heating panel may overheat and trip the attached GFCI plug, stopping the heater from working.
Does it matter what type of rug pad is utilized under the heating mat?
Most non-slip pad will work, but we highly recommend our non-slip rug pads.
Can you put the heating panel on top of a short-pile wall to wall carpet, with an area rug over it?
Yes, but you must use a non-slip, non-creep pad on top of the wall to wall carpet underneath the heating panel.
What is the Warranty on this product?
5-year limited manufacturer's warranty, plus our 30 days "no questions asked" return policy.
Can you put it under foam mats (like in a playroom)? Or, can you lay it on top of foam mats with an area rug over the heating panel?
Do not use under foam mats. You can place a nonslip pad on top of the foam mats, then the heating panel, then an area rug.
What does it cost to run? I'm looking at a 5x7 and would run it 24/7 in the winter months.
Our 5x7 heating panel is rated at 365 Watts. One unit of electricity is 1000 Watts for 1 hour. the heating panel will use 0.365 units per hour. The cost per unit of electricity varies across the country but is usually around $0.13 / unit. The panel will therefore cost about 4.7 cents per hour to operate (0.365 x $0.13). Refer to our Energy Cost Chart below for more details.
Can you use this product in a bathroom?
Yes, provided you use a non-slip pad under the heating panel and cover it with a rug. It has a GFCI plug attached, so is safe even on a standard outlet.
Is it safe?
Provided it is used strictly according to the operating instructions, it is perfectly safe. The heating panel has a Class A GFCI plug attached to the cord, which will trip if there is any electrical fault. In addition, the heating element is "partially self-correcting", and lowers operating temperature for a short while if insulating items are left on top of the heated rug for short periods.
How warm does the mat get? Does it have a thermostat?
In a reasonably well insulated room, the temperature on top of the rug will be 80°F to 90°F. There is no temperature control attached to the product. You can however purchase our plug-in timer and thermostat which can be used with this product.
Does this come with the required non-slip rug pad?
No. The rug pad does not come with the product. You must provide the rug and the non-slip rug pad. You place the heating panel between the non-slip rug pad and the rug.
Are there risks if you spill liquids on the rug covering the heating panel?
The heating panel is waterproof. If, however, the heating element is accidentally exposed by physical damage, and liquid is spilled over the damaged area, the GFCI plug will instantly trip and disconnect the power to the heater.
Can I roll an office chair over it?
Use a non-slip pad underneath the heating panel and a thin rug on top, and you can roll an office chair over it.
How durable is this heater? Is it OK in areas that get lots of foot traffic or where kids might be jumping or running?
The heater is very durable provided it is securely attached to the non-slip rug pad, and the rug on top remains in place covering the entire heating panel.
Will the product work well under a very thick rug?
Yes. It will take a bit longer for the rug to heat up to full operating temperature, but once that temperature is reached, the thickness of the rug is irrelevant.
Is a rug pad and absolute requirement? What if I stuck the corners of this mat down so it didn't bunch, would I still need a rug pad?
The rug pad not only stops slippage but acts as a thermal barrier to improve heat conduction to the surface of the rug. It also protects expensive floor coverings.
Is this item multi-voltage (i.e. 110v/220v)?
No. It is 120 volts only and has a 3-prong GFCI plug attached.

Fantastic, dependable
I purchased this from Cozy Winters to ensure I was getting a quality product. Sure you could go for some Chinese product via Amazon, but would it burn your house down!?! This product was designed in the US and has been made in South Africa for 30yrs. The rug pad itself has QC markings and test results clearly marked right on it. I know I am getting a safe and quality product. Purchased with the CozyWinters' pad and outlet thermostat this is an outstanding self-contained and discrete heating system for an over garage bedroom. Thank you!!

Heated mat and pad
I love these heated mats. My kitchen floors were so cold they are tile over a cement slab I was getting leg cramps. I think just because of the cold floors were so cold my boyfriend got me a 3 x 5 cozy winter mat. At first I didn’t think it work that well but after a day it was true 💕 I decided to do my whole kitchen. Just this morning I curled up with my dog on the floors while I was waiting for my coffee to brew and I now go barefoot. Wish I would’ve gotten these years ago!

My Feet Are Warm!
I just recently began working remotely from home and needed to do something about the cold concrete slab under my feet. In prep for the shift in job, we remodeled my home office, but being a Tri-level, it wasn't possible to put in radiant heat. Or so we thought! My wife came across this. We decided, why not? And, it works awesome! We have the insulated non-slip pad under the whole 6x9 area rug over new vinyl plank flooring and then the 34"x58" under my desk. In Michigan in the winter, this is a life saver. It works great!

Works great
Our condo has electric heat only. Want under floor heat. This is a great substitute. Bought some runners (2’x7’) for each side of bed. Nice to get up in the morning and step on heated rug. Bought those over 5 years ago and they still work great. Bought 4 more this year to have under every rug. I use with Nashone wireless thermostat outlets you can control many with one thermostat.

Perfect option
Our home does not have central heat. In the winter we use a fireplace. We purchased a radiant floor (under rug) heating pad for the bedroom and office. I love that they are invisible - taking up no space - and that they take the chill off the room on very cold days.

We have warm toes!
We have a camper van and everything is insulated except for the floor. This is perfect in 2 ways - it has a very low draw of electricity and it keeps the floor cozy. It was a little expensive so hopefully, it will last a long time. Shipping was fast. I purchased the insulated rug pad with it and paired it with a 100% wool rug.

Great for Humans and Cats
I purchased the 3'2 x 5' size to put under a rug to provide some heat during the winter. I am working from home at one end of the dining room table and the heating covers my half of the table. I installed it over a wood floor which sits totally uninsulated above a mostly finished basement. I also purchased the same size pad. I didn't have to trim anything. I used cut four square pieces from the provided tape to secure each corner. It's providing just the right amount of warmth radiating up, keeping me very comfortable. I live in a 100-year-old row house and it's a perfect supplement to our radiators. Oh, and the cats LOVE it, too.

I am in love!!!
Excellent product. I bought 2 of the 63”x93” to cover the center of the floor my very cold, tile covered sun room. I also bought the non-slip pads. I placed them in the center of the room and covered them with a 12’x14’ area rug. The room is noticeably warmer and feet are toasty. My puppies sleep up under my desk now because the floor is so warm. I absolutely recommend these floor heaters.

I was very hesitate that this would actually work - but I am so impressed, I ordered another one! Our floors (engineered hard wood over cement) are so cold in the winter you just never feel warm.
