The HeatTrak Heating Mats and Stair Treads requires one Power Control Unit to connect the system to an electrical outlet. If you don't buy a Power Control Unit for this system, your mats won't work. The Power Control Unit connects your system to a 120v or 240v electrical outlet and allows power to flow to the mats. You can connect up to 13 amps on a single Power Control Unit. If your connected mats exceed 13 amps, you will have to split up the mats and add a second Power Control Unit to plug into a separate outlet.
Additionally, if you are ordering Heated Mats for more than one location (ie - front of the house and back of the house) you must order a Power Control Unit for each location. The Power Control Unit contains a watertight connector that will allow it to connect to the first or last mat in your system. The unit is rainproof and is designed to be left outside for the entire winter season. The Power Control Unit contains a 6 foot cord.
